Awards

Spirit of Central

The Spirit of Central Marching Band and Guard is a two-time Bands of America Grand National Champion as well as a consistent BOA Grand Nationals Finalist since 1996.  The marching band is also a four-time ISSMA State Marching Band Champion.  Besides competing at the regional and national levels, the band has also performed in multiple parades including the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Fiesta Bowl Parade.  The marching band and guard perform at all home football games.  Students who participate in the Spirit of Central Marching Band and Guard practice daily for the first 12 weeks of school.  They also attend summer band rehearsals and band camp in August.

Concert Band

The Lawrence Central Concert Band performs high school level literature in varying styles in five or six concerts, plus two to three festivals and/or contests throughout the school year.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Symphonic Band

The Lawrence Central Symphonic Band performs high school level literature in varying styles in five or six concerts, plus two to three festivals and/or contests throughout the school year.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Wind Ensemble

The Lawrence Central Wind Ensemble performs college level literature in varying styles in five or six concerts, plus two to three festivals and/or contests throughout the school year.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Pep Band

During the Lawrence Central basketball season, students enrolled in the concert and jazz bands participate in the Pep Band.  The pep band performs at all home basketball games.  Students are expected to participate in five or six performances throughout the season.

Jazz Ensemble

The Lawrence Central Jazz Ensemble performs in numerous festivals and concerts throughout the school year.  Students are provided with opportunities to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.  They also participate in a variety of small groups to enhance their experiences with jazz improvisation, music theory, aural/listening skills, and jazz styles.

Instrumental Ensemble

The Lawrence Central Instrumental Ensemble studies and performs percussion techniques through solo, chamber ensemble and large percussion ensemble literature.  Students perform with the Concert/Symphonic bands and Wind Ensemble.
